The challenges of a
missionary's extraordinary task exposes them to unusual dangers
in a culture not their own.
Missionaries have often fallen on the
field of battle because of burnout and depression while others have
experienced a sense of loneliness and abandonment. A few have even
been wounded by “friendly fire” when sponsoring churches
lacked sensitivity.
Highland Oaks cares about the health
and well-being of missionaries and their families. In partnership
with former missionary and psychology professor, Dorris Schulz, Ph.D.,
and the Missions Resource Network, a variety of missionary care services
are provided to nurture to the unique needs of missionaries.
The ability to access accurate, professional
materials for a variety of missionary needs, is vital to sustained
ministry and the Mission Resouce network provides support services
to both missionaries and their sponsoring churches. MRN worshops and
seminars help candidates learn team building skills, discover potential
problems and provide tools for conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
Reentry services, stateside debriefing, and career counseling are
also offered for returning missionaries.
