Southern Brazil, a predominantly catholic
country composed of three states, boasts a population in excess of
twenty million people. In the city of Curitiba stands the Bible Institute
of Southern Brazil, which is dedicated to training families full time
with the purpose of planting churches in Southern Brazil.
The Church of Christ
in Curitiba, Brazil is home to the Bible Institute of Southern
Brazil.
Rod and Linda Nealeigh, arrived in 1988
with three other families and committed to doing the Lord’s
work in Curitiba for five years. As their love for the people grew
and the Lord continued to work powerfully, they made their home in
Curitiba. The church grew to over 300 members, purchased land, and
built an attractive building on a main avenue where it is accessible
and visible to Curitiba’s 2.5 million people. With over 25 active
ministries lead by faithful disciples of Christ and 18 small groups
which meet during the week, this church, which is home to the Bible
Institute of Southern Brazil, is now instrumental in planting other
churches.
Brazil is in the midst of a spiritual
awakening. The predominantly catholic history is being questioned
as relevant and true. The people are seeking meaning and relevance
in spiritual matters.
Although faithful brethren are being
trained to become future overseers and deacons, there remains an urgent
need for faithful Brazilian brethren who are equipped and prepared
to reach the lost with the gospel, the truth of God for their salvation.
Although the church in Curitiba is responsible for training schools
in the north, central, and southern regions of Brazil, strong churches
that are visible and active in these major cities is still needed.
The church in Curitiba is a growing, generous body of believers with
a vision to plant these churches. May the Lord continue to do great
things through the brothers and sisters in Christ in this city.
