Summer Reading Camp – Tuesday/Thursday in July
Registration fee: $75
Are you looking for a way to introduce your preschool child to new experiences this summer? What better way to explore our world, than through the magic of reading, at Little Acorns Summer Reading Camp! On Tuesday and Thursday in the Month of July, we have a great opportunity to take your preschool-aged child on a reading adventure. Each week, our entire school will focus on a well-known children’s author. Every age group, from infants through five-year-olds, will have specific age-appropriate books to read. From each of these books will come reinforcement activities that encompass learning at your child’s developmental level. We will also give you enough advanced notice, so that you might purchase these specific books for your own home library. At Little Acorns, we believe it is our job to work together with parents to provide as many tools for your child’s “educational toolbox” that we can. So, will you partner with our staff this July, as we engage your child in our world, through the beauty of children’s literature? We are looking forward to our summer adventure at Little Acorns!
We commit to providing a nurturing Christian atmosphere where each child can develop the love of learning while attaining individuality and high self-esteem. Our specialty is social and academic instruction through play with an emphasis on creating an environment where each child is successful and feels important to us and to God.

We offer classes for babies beginning at 6 weeks through Transitional Kindergarten. Children are placed in a class according to their age on September 1st, and stay in the same class for the entire school year. See Transitional Kindergarten requirements below.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
Transitional Kindergarten, or TK, can be seen as year one of a two year Kindergarten program. TK provides an early childhood education program that builds a bridge between preschool years and traditional Kindergarten. With increasing academic demands and structure in Kindergarten, some parents are aware that their child may not be ready for the traditional Kindergarten program.
HOURS OF OPERATION: The Transitional Kindergarten program follows the four-day schedule of Little Acorns, with an understanding that the child must be enrolled all four days. There is no two-day option for TK students.
ELIGIBILITY: Transitional Kindergarten is designed for, but not restricted to, students who have completed our (or another) Pre-Kindergarten class, or turn 5 years old between September 2 and December 2 and who may benefit from an enriched foundational early childhood education program to prepare them for success in traditional Kindergarten. A student who turns five between September 2 and December 2 must be recommended by their previous (older threes) teacher. Just because a student qualifies based on their birthday, does not mean a child would be ideally suited for the TK program. Although, it is becoming increasingly popular for parents to keep a child back who has a spring or summer 5th birthday. A child would best benefit when the decision is made in collaboration between the school and the parents.
CURRICULA: We provide children with a well-planned classroom program to build necessary social and academic skills for success throughout their school careers. The program contains focused instruction in literacy and numeracy along with strong emphasis on self-regulation and social engagement. The daily schedule includes whole group instruction and activities, small group instruction and independent and “hands-on” learning. The Transitional Kindergartners will often enjoy lunch and recess with their Pre-K friends and participate in all school activities such as chapel, Spanish, and motor skills development throughout the year.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT: Communication between home and school is essential in helping children succeed. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in their child’s learning journey at home and at school. The TK teacher will meet with parents on a regular basis to discuss the child’s progress and ways the parent can support him/her at home. Assessments, along with teacher observations, will be used to monitor each child’s growth and progress throughout the year. The TK teacher will use this information to guide instruction, individualized to meet every child’s needs.
The following documents must be on file prior to the first day of school: Admission form, immunization records, and a health statement signed by a doctor. Little Acorns will not accept children without immunization records.
Registration Fee (non-refundable)
School Year: $200 (September to May)
School Year Session
School Year Session 2016-2017 is Monday through Thursday 9:00 to 2:00 from September 6th through May 25th. We follow the Richardson School District Calendar for most holidays. For the school year you may choose Monday/Wednesday, Tuesday/Thursday, or Monday through Thursday.
We want all children to enjoy learning. Minor problems will be handled in the classroom in a positive manner. More difficult problems will be the responsibility of the director, who will work with the parent to correct unwanted behaviors.
Lunch and Snacks
Please provide a snack, lunch and drink for your child every day, labeled with your child’s name.
Toddler classes up through the 3 year old class will have a quiet time at the end of the day. Children in the baby class will nap as needed.
Change of Clothes
Each child will need to bring a change of clothes in a zip-up bag. If the extra clothes are ever needed, the soiled clothes will be sent home in the same bag.
Students are enrolled by the director. Parents may come by to pick up registration form or one can be emailed to you.
